Every year Mother’s Day creeps up on me. My mom’s birthday is at the end of April, so I’m always focused on finding her a birthday gift and rarely think ahead to Mother’s Day. Usually, I end up ordering her flowers at the last possible second. Bad daughter! This year I’m trying to get ahead and seeking out something that won’t wilt in a week. As I’ve said before, I much prefer buying unique, handmade items, especially for my mom. If I were to ask her what her favourite gift would be, I am positive it would be something I found at a local craft sale or from Etsy.

I’ve spent a lot of time searching Etsy this year for items for our home and have stumbled across a few things that are just perfect for my mom. I thought I’d share some of those with you today so you can spoil your mom with one of these unique Mother’s day gift ideas. Looking for a gift for mom? Check out these 8 unique mother's day gifts!

MACRAME PLANT HANGER

Since we moved into our new place, I have been obsessed with plants. We have so many sunny windows to fill! I picked up a couple of macrame hangers from a thrift store to use in our bedroom, and they are great. My mom is a fellow plant lover so I when I saw these versions on Etsy I thought they’d make a great gift. A real plant and a hanger is a step up from the usual cut flowers.

FLORAL SCARF FOR SPRING

Winter, summer, fall or spring; it doesn’t matter what season it is my mom almost always has a scarf. The weather in Alberta can turn at any second so having a lightweight scarf nearby is a lifesaver on chilly nights. This one is so pretty and would give a beautiful pop of colour to an otherwise neutral outfit.

BEESWAX FOOD WRAPS

Have you tried beeswax food wraps yet? They are fantastic! We got some for Christmas (from who else but mom) and they’ve almost completely replaced our need for plastic wrap. I certainly have room to improve when it comes to developing green habits, but these were a simple switch in the right direction.

I would recommend grabbing one of the variety packs, so you have a few different sizes. The warmth from your hands make the wraps mouldable, and they’ll seal up bowls with leftovers or wrap up a sandwich for lunch. Then you can wipe them down to clean them and keep them for the next time. Just keep them away from heat; they are wax.

PRINTABLE ARTWORK

When we were looking for cheap home decor for our house, I discovered printable artwork. Game changer! There are resources for free art, but you can also find tons of options on Etsy. It’s a great way to support local artists and not spend a lot of money.

Once you’ve found a piece or two that mom will love, you can order the prints from your local print shop (I use Costco.) Then find a cute frame, and you’re all set. I’ve had good luck finding cheap frames at thrift or antique stores. The best part? If you already have a frame, many of the digital prints come in a variety of sizes.

FRAGRANCE SAMPLE PACK

I am not a big perfume person. Strong fragrances give me an instant headache! Instead, I like to stick with natural scents or essential oils. I haven’t tested out these fragrances, but they sound perfect. And the sample pack is ideal for gifting. It can be so challenging to pick out a scent for someone, but this gives them plenty of options.

DELICATE EARRINGS

How pretty are these earrings? They’re precisely the kind of jewelry that would go into heavy rotation in my mom’s wardrobe. Sometimes I feel like I buy her too much jewelry but she’s always so appreciative, and I swear, she’s not that good ok a faker 😉 I’ve already got her mother’s day gift purchased for this year, but I’ve favourited this pair for when I start my Christmas shopping.

Organic Soap Gift Set

I’m such a sucker for fancy bath products, and my mom is the same. Guess that’s where I get it. Every Christmas we both stock each other’s stockings full of soap, lotions, and potions. These organic soaps caught my eye when I was browsing Etsy because they’re so darn pretty, but the ingredients also sound delish.

The gift set comes with your choice of three soap bars, and you can mix and match whatever scents you want. If I were choosing my box would include Uncorked, Permafrost, and Honeybee.

CHEEKY CARD

Maybe you’re not a Mother’s Day gift-giver. That doesn’t mean you can’t still do a little something to lift your mom’s spirits. And what better than a crude card? This one stuck out to me, but Top Hat and Monocle have a huge selection for you to search through if you need something slightly less on the nose. Not everyone is comfortable dropping F-bombs around their momma’s.

I’d love to hear what you have planned for Mother’s day. We usually keep things simple and either have my mom over for brunch or a BBQ if the weather is agreeable. *Fingers crossed* Birthday’s we always go out for dinner but for Mother’s and Father’s day we tend to keep things more casual.
